What is a Class Action?
A Class action is a lawsuit that is brought by one or more “named Plaintiff(s)” on behalf of a group of people (known as the “class”) who suffering a similar harm or loss. This harm or loss can be caused by any number of various situations including:
• Consumer Fraud
• Corporate Misconduct
• Employment Discrimination
• Environmental Law / Toxic Torts
• Insurance Fraud
• Finance Fraud
• Product Liability
• Securities Fraud
In a class action, one or more representatives bring the lawsuit on behalf of a class of similarly situated persons. In many instances, the individual members of the class cannot afford to bring their own private lawsuits. Thus, the class action allows them to be compensated without incurring the costs of a lawsuit.
